Abstract

I have been acting professor for Critical African Studies at Leipzig University since April 2024. Based on my interdisciplinary background in African studies, legal studies and anthropology, my research is situated at the intersection of law and politics, legal pluralism, globalisation, statehood and governance, conflict/resolution and de/coloniality with a regional focus on the broader 'Horn of Africa'.

Before joining the University of Leipzig, I was a senior researcher in the 'Law & Anthropology’ Department at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, a visiting professor at the Central European University and at the Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law, and a research fellow at the Cluster of Excellence 'Multiple Africa', Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies at the University of Bayreuth; Excellence Cluster ‘Religion & Politics’ at the University of Münster and a fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg/Centre for Global Cooperation Research.
