Anthropology students may deepen their education through studying abroad, by conducting internships, language courses and many more opportunities. Our institute supports you through Erasmus cooperations with other universities, approval of accredited programmes and courses, and a brief overview of exchange programmes on this page. Additionally, we provide information to international students such Erasmus incomers and other temporary students. Programme

Generally, students at our institute complete 30 credits per semester in either their required classes and/or their electives. This corresponds to approximately 3 to 6 modules per semester. Please discuss prior to your arrival how many courses your university of origin requires.

Courses taught in English: At master level, English is our general language of instruction. At bachelor level, the large majority of courses is taught in German. However, we regularly offer courses taught in English and work with English texts in German classes. Our current courses can be found on Almaweb.

Application

  • Erasmus+: Please apply through the Erasmus+ coordinator at your respective university of origin. Information regarding our institute can be answered through our Erasmus+ coordinator.
  • Other exchange programmes: At the university's international center information regarding exchanges is available. Please apply for exchange programmes directly through Leipzig University.
  • Master's programme: Please find all necessary information in our Master’s programme rubric.

Studying abroad

  • When? In the 5th semester of your bachelor (recommended), for master students your 3rd semester (recommended).
  • How long? 1 to 2 semesters. Be aware that foreign universities may have different semester periods. A leave of absence will be granted for up to two semesters by Leipzig University's administration. University courses completed while studying abroad can be credited at our institute.
  • Where to? The possibilities of studying abroad are diverse, ranging from collaborative accredited organizations (such as the Leipzig University partnership, Erasmus+, etc.) to self-organized study abroad programmes. You can find currently available exchange places in the databse for international exchange provided by the University of Leipzig.

Be aware that programme names might vary! This includes courses which might not be labeled under "anthropology" but are academically related and contain similar subject matters and methods. The naming or label is dependent on the respective institution, region, and/or subject history.
